Understanding dignity in care – Our E-learning course Understanding Dignity in Care is our introduction to the principles of Dignity in Care for Care and Support Workers.
This free e-learning course will give you an overview of the eight main factors that promote dignity in care. Each of these Dignity Factors contributes to a person’s sense of self-respect, which all be present in any care that is delivered.
Understanding Dignity in Care will introduce the following concepts:
- Choice and control
- Communication
- Eating and nutritional care
- Pain Management
- Personal Hygiene
- Practical assistance
- Privacy
- Social Inclusion

There are also Think and reflect boxes where you may be asked to make notes or answer any questions asked. You will not be assessed on what you enter. This is simply to aid your learning and improve your practice. We recommend that you keep a notepad and pen by your side as you work through the course and write your reflections and answers there.

The Care Act 20141 sets out statutory responsibility for the integration of care and support between health and local authorities. CQC require organisations to deliver care in a way that is safe, effective, caring and responsive. This course can be aligned to the cqc fundamental standard, Dignity in care and KLOES Safe: S1 Caring: C3 Responsive: R3 Well-Led: W1
This is a difficult question to answer as no two learners are the same. However, our analytics show that on average a learner will take around 30 minutes to complete this course.
You should monitor an individuals performance. This should include Assess knowledge and competence at least annually. Also, Provide learning and development opportunities when identified or required and at least every 3 years.
