Preventing Falls, trips and slips in care is our introductory eLearning course that will help you identify and prevent slips and trips in many care settings. According to NICE falls cost the NHS around 2.3 billion each year (1) Falls and fall-related injuries are a common and serious problem for older people. People aged 65 and older have the highest risk of falling, with 30% of people older than 65 and 50% of people older than 80 falling at least once a year.

Often falls are not witnessed so staff have to deduce the reason for that fall. It is more important than ever to find ways to prevent falls in the first place as the outcomes for someone over 65 who has had a fall can be very negative on their long term health. How can falls among older people be prevented? Which clients are most likely to benefit from falls prevention interventions, and does the effectiveness of interventions relate to the patient’s length of hospital stay? It is often said prevention is better than cure, so this course will support you in your practice.
